Calligra Author is a specialized tool for serious writers. The application is still in infancy and under heavy development, but due to being based on the solid base of Calligra Words, it is already usable for producing texts.
The goal is to provide an application for the following two user categories:
- Novelists who produce long texts with complicated plots involving many characters and scenes but with limited formatting.
- Textbook authors who want to take advantage of the added possibilities in eBooks compared to paper-based textbooks.
All design of workflows and functionality can be traced back to these users, and it allows us to create a tool geared exactly for those users, rather than trying to force the powerful, generic word processor that Words is to also cater to them.
Distraction Free writing, for when you simply want to write.
Features include:
- Distraction free writing mode, which hides all the user interface and lets you immerse yourself entirely in writing.
- Simple statistics (word and sentence count) in the status bar if you want them, for tracking your progress.
- Support for exporting to EPUB, Mobi and Wiki formats, to ease the publishing process.
- Navigation docker, for easily moving through the document without having to search for a table of contents or otherwise lose your place.
